First epistle of John: 5.
—
7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 1 John 5:7
— This verse is a forgery and an interpolation:
It was added to some versions of the Bible.
It is not found in other versions.
— The proof of its falsehood is that it claims Jesus is God, while in the same chapter there are 7 verses that say he is the Son of God. Of course, Jesus cannot be both God and the Son of God at the same time.
These seven verses are:
5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
9 If we accept human testimony, God’s testimony is greater, for this is God’s testimony concerning his Son.
10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because they have not believed the testimony that God has given about his Son.
11 This is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life, and so that you may believe in the name of the Son of God.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.
This is the true God and eternal life.
1 John
— Of course, the last phrase cannot refer to Jesus since he is not God; it is about the Father, not the Son.
Especially since other versions read as follows:
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know the true God.
– And we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
