John 1
When reading the various translations of the New Testament into our current language, we sometimes need to use our intellect to understand the written text if we find differences between verses or between translations. This is understandable, as translators are human and prone to error.

For example, in John chapter 14, verse 7, we find the following: “If you had known me, you would have known my Father also; and from now on you do know him and have seen him.” This cannot mean that they actually saw God when they saw Jesus, because no one has ever seen God, as stated in the same Gospel of John, chapter 1, verse 18: “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son,… and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.” This is also what Paul said in his first letter to Timothy, chapter 6, verse 16: “God alone has immortality, and no one has seen him.”  No one has seen him, nor can anyone see him. As in verse 16:

“He alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light. No one has seen him, nor can anyone see him. To him be honor and eternal power. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:16)

Also, Jesus died, while God does not die, according to the verse mentioned above: 16 “God alone has immortality.”

Therefore, Jesus is not the Father. In 1 Timothy 6:16, he said, “No one comes to the Father except through me,” meaning that he is not the Father.   Rather, He is the means of reaching the Father.

And the verse: Jesus said, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” He did not say, “I am the Father,” but rather, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” This expression can only mean “as if he has seen the Father,” so as not to contradict the verse, “No one has ever seen God.” Because all those who were with Jesus saw him, he could not possibly be God.

18 “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, …. ” John 1:18

And when He said, “I am in the Father and the Father is in me.”

It is clear that these are literary expressions.  Because if we take it literally, we ask, “Who is in whom?”

Is He in the Father, or is the Father in Him?

With apologies for the expression.

Either the box is in the bag, or the bag is in the box.

The box cannot be in the bag, and the bag in the box, at the same time, unless it is a figure of speech.

So, is He in the Father, or is the Father in Him? This is a figure of speech.

It means that He does God’s will.

As evidenced by His saying:

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I have been doing; and greater works than these will they do.”

Can a human being do works greater than the works of God?

And His saying:

10 “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me?”  The words I speak to you I do not speak on my own authority, but it is the Father, dwelling in me, who does the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or else believe me because of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and greater works than these will they do too.

This means that any Christian can do works greater than the works of Christ, but will they actually do greater works?  than the Works of God

13 And whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

The phrase “I am in my Father” does not mean that he is the Father, because He also said:

20 “On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

We are in Him and He is in us, but we are not Him:

And also, He is in the Father and the Father is in Him, but they are not one.

— After the ascension of Christ, another Comforter will be with us, the Holy Spirit: He will be in us:

16 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter to be with you until the end of time.”  Forever.

26 My Father is greater than I:
John 14:28
28 “You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ because my Father is greater than I.”

Meaning, they cannot be one since the Father is greater than him.
